STOP Governor Corbett's proposed budget cuts for individuals with intellectual disabilities
Governor Corbett STOP the proposed cuts in funding for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Many of you know my sister Mary or have heard me talk about her as I have advocated for her to get the care she needs. Mary lived with my family until she became ill and my father could no longer care for her. She moved to a home with the Devereux Foundation. Recently we found that her home was being closed and she is forced to move. This is only the beginning of what can happen to her and others that cannot advocate for themselves. I am asking you to sign this petition and write a letter to Governor Corbett and your state legislatures. We need your help and there is power in numbers so please pass this on if you know anyone else like yourself who cares. We can make a difference!
Why is this important?
Governor Corbett's proposed budget would nearly eliminate the funding for families who receive intellectual disability services funded by state -only dollars. My sister Mary has been receiving funding since she became ill and my father was no longer able to care for her. The home she is currently living in run by Devereux is being forced to close. Mary and others like her are vulnerable. Governor Corbett said he valued children and adults with intellectual disabilities as fully participating members of society and that he would work to provide them with the support they need to achieve their potential. Make him fullfill that promise he made to me and the thousands of other families with relatives with intellectual disabilities!
