Time for an Apology

The Native American communities within the United States are still facing the obstacles resulting from injustices committed by the federal government since colonization. Let's stop the pattern of disrespect and recognize the treaties that have been ignored for centuries. Let's start with an apology.

Why is this important?

I spent several weeks on the Leech Lake, Mille Lacs, and Red Lake Reservations in northern Minnesota. I saw firsthand both the problems still afflicting native peoples and the beautiful intricacies of native cultures that are still alive today. We have to stop cutting native people out of history and start including them in the present. Australia and Canada have apologized to their indigenous populations: it's time for the United States to join them.
