STOP leaving companion animals in hot cars!

Leaving any animal is a parked car during warm temperatures is not only negligent; it's animal abuse! We urge you to make it illegal to leave animals in confined vehicles in Michigan.

Why is this important?

Every year, animals die in confined cars or non-moving vehicles. They die a slow, agonizing death. They needlessly suffer at the hands of negligent, irresponsible pet owners.

On a 78 degree day the interior temp of a parked car can reach 120 degrees within minutes. On a 90 degree day the interior temp can soar to 160 degrees in fewer than 10 minutes. In just 15 minutes an animal can sustain brain damage or die. The lives of animals matter!

16 states (AZ, CA, IL, ME, MD, MN, NC, NV, NH, NJ, NY, ND, RI, SD, VT, and WV) already have statutes that specifically prohibit leaving an animal in confined vehicles. Please help us stop negligent pet owners from leaving their pets in hot vehicles, by implementing stern consequences in Michigan. We urge you to make it illegal to leave animals in confined vehicles.
