Stop Overdevelopment in Fairfield, CT

Fairfield is being inundated by developers and their massive apartment complexes, altering the environmental landscape and destroying the quality of life for residents with traffic issues.  On and adjacent to Black Rock Turnpike there are no fewer than 4 proposed projects ( along with one newly built medical building)  that will create traffic nightmares and utterly destroy delicate wildlife areas.  You don’t have to live near one of these projects to be impacted by it. If you use the Merritt Parkway or shop along Black Rock Turnpike, you will be impacted.

On April 1 during a Town Planning and Zoning meeting, concerns about the massive 6 story, 2 building apartment complex at 4480 Black Rock Turnpike and its impact on wildlife,  was raised by a Town Planning and Zoning board member. The board member stated the board has the power to hire an independent wildlife study. They were immediately told there are no funds available to conduct such a study.  In addition questions were raised regarding the findings of the existing traffic study.

We request the town of Fairfield immediately conduct and fund an independent wildlife study showing the impact 4480 Black Rock Turnpike will have.

In addition, we ask that the town require an independent traffic study of the area where Black Rock Turnpike meets Congress Streets. In the 2019 Black Rock Turnpike Safety Study, researchers did a cursory study of the area and found that further study was needed due to public concern. It is essential we have an accurate picture of how 4480 Black Rock Turnpike will impact this already congested area.

Why is this important?

If you live in Fairfield, you see these massive buildings all over town. Maybe one is in your neighborhood? There are many more of these massive projects being proposed. Once an untouched wildlife habitat is destroyed, there is no replacing it. Once four massive projects totaling close to 400 units are added to the area of Black Rock Turnpike along with the newly built medical building in the area, traffic will be exponentially worse than it already is.
