There should be a federal law against employers requesting potential employees to sign a release for them to check their credit. It is personal and private information and there are many reasons that a person's credit score might be low or a bankruptcy may be on their report such as a catastrophic medical condition or a job loss. We have been through a major economic collapse and many are unemployed this is hurting the chances of many very qualified unemployed people. This needs to stop!
Why is this important?
American citizens are frequently asked to sign a paper stating that they will allow a potential employer to check their credit. This is a invasion of privacy. The information should be considered private and personal. It does not benefit the employer as there are various reasons why a person may have a low credit score or bankruptcy, such as due to a job loss or catastrophic illness. We have just been through a major economic collapse. Employers have no business requiring this information and it needs to stop. We want a law passed making it illegal for employers to ask or obtain this information.
