Stop the Ban on Affirmative Action: Say NO to State Question 759

The Oklahoma Legislature just approved a ban on affirmative action, claiming it creates resentment among citizens. Yet, while discussing the bill on the floor, Representative Sally Kern HD 84 stated that minorities earn less than white people because they don’t work as hard and have less initiative. She said, 'We have a high percentage of blacks in prison, and that’s tragic, but are they in prison just because they are black or because they don’t want to study as hard in school? I’ve taught school, and I saw a lot of people of color who didn’t study hard because they said the government would take care of them.' She also made disparaging comments about women not being focused as much on work as they are about their families. We need to make sure State Question 529 does NOT pass. Help us to say NO to Sally Kern and NO to State Question 759. Please join us in this effort.

Why is this important?

Oklahoma Legislature just passed a bill that will send an affirmative action BAN to the ballot in 2012.

Affirmative action is described as: any measure that considers race, gender, disability, or veteran status that is adopted to provide opportunities to qualified individuals who have historically been denied opportunities and to prevent future occurrence.

We do not believe opportunities will be available to some qualified people if this ban is passed.
