Stop the Chop NYNJ! Stop tourist helicopters in NYC/NJ!

Hundreds of thousands of New York City and New Jersey residents have to suffer through the noise of 300+ daily helicopter tours flying out of the City-owned Downtown Manhattan Heliport. They fly up and down the Hudson River polluting our skies with noise and toxic emissions all day, every day, 365 days a year. The good news is that more than two dozen elected officials in New York want a complete ban on these non-essential tours. The bad news is that Mayor de Blasio refuses to do so despite the fact that these tours bring almost no benefits to New York or New Jersey. They only serve to enrich the for-profit tour operators at the expense of the health, welfare and safety of the many communities underneath their flight path.

Why is this important?

Please join our fight to STOP THE CHOP and help us restore a quieter and cleaner environment over New York Harbor and the Hudson River. All MoveOn.org members, please think twice before patronizing any helicopter tours anywhere in the world. There is no such thing as a quiet or pollution-free helicopter. Until there is, please help us ban them from our skies. To find out how you can help, please visit StoptheChopNYNJ.org.

  • There's zero reason why helicopters should be allowed to hover above Central Park, apart from the noise pollution, they're a significant source of particulate air pollution, and have been shown to be major sources of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon particles (PAHs)—an especially harmful component of particulate air pollution.
