Stop the Corporate Owned, For Profit Immigrant Detention Center

We, the undersigned, oppose the establishment of a corporate owned, for profit immigrant detention center in Joliet, Illinois or anywhere else in the State of Illinois.

Corrections Corporation of America, the company currently proposing the facility, has had a repeated history of cutting corners with proper medical treatment for their occupants.

Workers have complained about being overworked and underpaid.

Additionally, privatization leads to inflated budgets. According to the Governor’s Finance Officer Associations, 25% of all contract prices are waste hidden in undisclosed and indirect costs.

Why is this important?

The City of Joliet is currently proposing building a corporate owned, for profit immigration detention center.

If allowed, it would be Illinois' first and would make way for other similar facilities to be built in the state.

Help us send a clear message that we don't appreciate deficit expanding, for profit, detention centers that overwork and underpay their employees and cut corners in medical care and proper treatment of their detainees.
