Stop the "Murphy" Bill! HR 2646- "Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act" of 2015.

On June 4th, 2015, Representative Tim Murphy of Pennsylvania re-introduced the Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act, also known as H.R. 2646. The Consumer Council System of Maine and our peers around the country oppose this bill because we want to promote mental health recovery, not kill it, which this bill would do.

Why is this important?

The bill continues to promote institutional and coercive approaches to inpatient and outpatient treatment instead of investment in effective community-based mental health services.

Reasons for signing

  • Mental health treatment needs to change! More choices and less coercion
  • Stop this draconian control model that does nothing to promote the wellness and wholeness of people.
  • I used to be on prescriptions and was in inpatient behavioral health three times. This bill doesn't belong in society, it belongs in the trash.
