Stop the Republican Entertainment Complex
There are laws protecting private citizens from slanderous or libelous speech or writing. These laws should be expanded to protect our elected officials, especially during campaigns. The Republican Entertainment Complex is NOT about entertainment but about spreading misinformation to incite the electorate to vote against their own interests. A constant barrage of hate, lies, and misinformation is not healthy for the American people or this country. Some responsibility for what is broadcast must be taken. Since they take no responsibility for it on their own, they must be forced to do so by enacting laws to protect elected government officials. Or at the very least, these programs must come with disclaimers broadcast before and after each segment to notify the American citizens or people from other countries that this is ENTERTAINMENT and not FACTUAL NEWS. This past election is proof of the magnitude of the lies that are spawned and spread by the R.E.C. It is a national embarrassment.
Why is this important?
Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and many other authors, talk radio hosts and television hosts LIE to the American electorate on a daily basis inciting racism, xenophobia and HATE. Canada won't even allow Fox News to be broadcast because of the disgusting content of the programs. Freedom of speech is one thing - but lying with the specific purpose of turning people against the government is another.
