Mr. President, Secretary of the Interior, Members of Congress:
We, the undersigned, are petitioning you to halt the sale for commercial development of the Sioux sacred lands known as Pe Sla and to deed these lands in perpetuity back to the Sioux Nation. Allowing these lands to be sold by the descendants of the homesteaders (who obtained them by virtue of yet another broken treaty) would simply be the end of a long line of a shameful history that is a disgrace to America. You have the authority. Please use it to return these lands to their rightful owners.
Why is this important?
The sacred land called Pe'Sla are located in the heart of the Black Hills in South Dakota. The land was granted to the Lakota Sioux Tribes 150 years ago, but people illegally homesteaded and are now selling the land for development.
