STOP THE SHORELINE DIET

We the taxpayers and citizens of Muskegon, Michigan and the area which includes those who stock businesses, go to our events, spend money in our town and most importantly pay the taxes that make everything possible would like the SHORELINE RD DIET TO STOP AND ALL PHASES OF THIS EXPERIMENT to be ended.
This is turning a perfectly good roadway into a nightmare to navigate. That is counterproductive to what the city says it wants. People are zigzagging through town to find an expeditious way to get to and through town. We have already paid for Shoreline's construction and were not considered before $100,000. was spent on a study to determine it's demise. As one local entrepreneur put it "if it sucks " it can go back to the way it was (at our expense). By finding alternate routes we are placing many more at risk. The city says that Shoreline was built to disenfranchise the poor and those of color. At least everyone can get around IN the city by way of Shoreline which can not be said of Bypass 31. Oh, and the city is also aiming at reducing/removing Moses Parkway which is the best way to get to Jackson hill and Veterans Parkway. Are we trying to disenfranchise them also? I believe this is another ploy to attempt to shame people into this ridiculous project.
The city wants more bikeways. How will that work in our many months of inclement weather???
To this date there has been no evidence that this roadway is any more dangerous than any similar road in any similar sized city.
We must make our feelings known because experience tells us that once something is done it is not soon undone ...if ever--and again at our cost. These dollars being spent would be better served replacing and repairing our crumbling infrastructure. This is the expectation we have of our elected officials. We are not attempting to micromanage every little aspect of city life. But, this is a very important and costly part of our daily life here as citizens who live and work here year round.
We, are not afraid of change. To the contrary we are delighted by the emphasis now being made of this being a tourist destination as it always should have been. But, 3 new housing developments are being built on Shoreline drive. It is ludicrous to believe that less lanes will be sufficient as the population grows and swells now and in the summer.
We, are also very concerned about the safety issues of having more people enjoy our town and what could happen if there was a catastrophic event like those happening all over our country. Now, THERE is evidence based security concerns.
We have been told that this is just talking and may be a long way out if it ever comes to fruition. This is another ploy to have our concern assuaged while the road disappears without our knowledge. We no longer live in an atmosphere where we can open the paper or turn on the TV and find out what is happening in our own community. Cable TV and the newspaper have become too expensive for most to afford. Many are still not aware of this "Shoreline diet/project."
If we want to have our hard earned money spent in a way we would approve we can not abdicate our input and attention to any meaningful civic proposal.

Why is this important?

Please sign this petition and let your voices be heard and recognized so the city does not think this is just a few disgruntled troublemakers. Thank you.
