Stop the Somerville Transfer Tax

A Home Rule Petition ”An Act Authorizing the City of Somerville to Impose a Real Estate Transfer Fee” has been submitted to the legislature of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The intent of the Home Rule Petition is to seek approval from the Commonwealth to impose a transfer fee on the property owners of the City of Somerville to fund the City’s affordable housing trust. While the undersigned agree that there is a need for more affordable housing in the city and the state, they believe that this Property Transfer Fee is punitive to property owners and it will not solve the statewide affordable housing need.

Why is this important?

We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge the Committee and the Legislature to vote against House Bill 4582, "an act authorizing the City of Somerville to impose a Real Estate Transfer Fee.”
