STOP UNETHICAL ZOO BREEDING AND RAISING!!!!
To members of Congress,
I am concerned about the breeding and permanent captivity of wild animals in zoos, particularly at Southwick’s Zoo in Massachusetts. Seeing how many wild animals are kept and bred in captivity made me question why this is still allowed when animals cannot choose to live in these conditions.

I am asking Congress to create a federal law that would prohibit unnecessary breeding of wild animals in zoos nationwide and establish stronger protections for animals already in captivity. This would help prevent animals from being born into permanent captivity when there is no genuine need for them to be bred.
Animals cannot choose to live in captivity, so I believe the law should put their welfare before entertainment, exhibition or maintaining zoo populations.

Why is this important?
I care about this issue because I don’t think wild animals should be born into a life of captivity just so people can look at them. Southwick’s Zoo in Massachusetts for example, is home to more than 900 animals from over 160 species. Note that when you are walking around seeing extremely large animals like tigers on less than an acre of land. Knowing places like this exist makes me wonder why breeding animals for permanent captivity is considered acceptable when they have no choice in it.
I believe animals should be rescued, rehabilitated and protected especially when they are injured or unable to survive in the wild. I don’t think animals should be continuously bred simply to maintain zoo populations. There are already federal laws regulating the treatment of certain zoo animals but those laws focus on standards of care rather than completely preventing unnecessary captive breeding.
I want people to join me because these animals cannot speak up or choose where they live. If we can create stronger federal protections we can make sure that animals are being cared for because they genuinely need our help not because they were born to be displayed.
