Stop Violations of the US Constitution at Standing Rock Camp

Loretta Lynch
Attorney General
United States of America

Dear General Lynch,

As a citizen of the United States, I hereby request you open an immediate investigation of police authorities in Standing Rock, North Dakota for conspiring against the civil and constitutional rights of protestors, in violation of 42 U.S.C., Section 1983, which reads, in part, “Every person who, under color of any statute…causes to be subjected, any citizen of the United States or other person within the jurisdiction thereof to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured by the Constitution and laws, shall be liable to the party injured in an action at law. . . .”

It has been reported that police, as part of a strategy of crowd control, deliberately used water cannons, in subfreezing temperatures, against protestors, subjecting protestors to the risk of serious injury and depriving them of their First Amendment right of free speech, the right to protest.

I am requesting that you use the power of your office to investigate this incident, to determine the participants and to take such action to enjoin the offending parties from further violation of the US Constitution and applicable federal law.

This matter is urgent as people's lives have been and are being threatened.

Thank you.

Why is this important?

The Indigenous People of this land have been subjected to genocide and dehumanization for 500 years. That must stop. Please stop the violence. Protect the People, not those who have been, and still are, violating human and constitutional rights at Standing Rock, North Dakota.
