Millions of dollars worth of medicine are wasted when someone can no longer use them because their condition changes, or they no longer need them. These medications are destroyed, thrown out or otherwise disposed of by patients, family members, healthcare providers and institutions.
This petition requests that laws be passed to allow pharmacists, physicians and clinics to dispense unused medications, especially those that are sealed and still within their expiration date, to needy patients who are without prescription coverage or the ability to afford these medications.
Why is this important?
As a Social Worker in an outpatient Hematology-Oncology Clinic, I see numerous people without insurance, without prescription coverage, and who cannot afford their medications, some of which are life-saving.
