Strenghthen Federal Cyberstalking Laws

Ask Congress to strenghthen the Federal cyberstalking law by:1). Also including stalking by Individuals who identify themselves to the victim or known by the victim, not just by anonymous perpetrators . 2).Use blogs and other indirect means to harass and stalk. 3). Increase the penalty for violation from the current two year maximum time in prison.

Why is this important?

U.S.C. 47,Section 223,which covers cyberstalking, applies only to direct communications between the perpetrator and the victim. It should include individuals who use blogs and other third party means to stalk and harass. The statute also requires that the perpetrator has not revealed his or her name to the victim. It should include perpetrators known to the victim also.Violation of this statute is only a misdemeanor, punishable by not more than two years in prison. The penalty should be increased.
