Stricter Tanning Regulations for Teens
Governor Herbert, please sign into law SB41 requiring in-person parental consent for individuals under the age of 18 years of age to utilitize tanning facilities. Just as we protect our minors from cigarettes and R-rated movies, we need parents to know when their children are engaging in tanning as melanoma is the second highest cause of cancer among 15-29 year olds in Utah, according to the World Health Organization. Thank you for your consideration on this important legislation.
Why is this important?
Please support Governor Herbert insigning this bill to amend Utah Health Code provisions regulating tanning facilities. This law will make it unlawful for any operator of a tanning facility to allow a person younger than18 years old to use a tanning device unless the minor's parent or legal guardian:
(a) appears in person at the tanning facility the first time that the minor uses a tanning device, and at least once each 12 month period thereafter in which the minor uses the tanning device; and
(b) signs the consent form required.
