Sunday Sales in Restaurants

Liquor stores are able to sell on Sundays with zero food sales. A restaurant's sales have to be more than 50% food sales in order for it to be open on Sundays.

Why is this important?

Recently the state of Georgia enabled liquor stores to open on Sundays without having to sell food. In order for a restaurant or bar that sells food to be open on Sunday their food sales (for the year) have to account for more than 50% of their total sales. Restaurants and bars that sell food often have to drastically reduce the prices of the drinks that contain alcohol in order to meet that requirement. This in turn lowers sales, profits and possible tax revenue.
