Dear Senator,
I saw that the House recently passed the Disclosure Bill (H.4226). I support this bill and hope it will come to a vote soon in the Senate and will have your support as well.
Voters deserve to know what special interests lie behind Super PACs. Since the Citizens United decision there has been a flood of "dark money" in our elections. This bill is a chance to shed some light on this spending. I think it's important that super PAC donors are disclosed in real-time and that when super PACs spend money on ads, the top donors are listed in the ad so we know who helped pay for it.
We need to do a lot to fix the problem of big money in our democracy but the MA Disclose Bill is a really important first step. I hope it has your support.
Thank you.
Why is this important?
Super PACs are evading our disclosure laws and influencing elections in Massachusetts. The needs of the average citizens are being pushed aside to focus on the needs of big money.
The Massachusetts Disclosure Bill calls for transparency. Super PACs would be required to disclose their funding sources in real time instead of keeping voters in the dark. Voters deserve to know where the money funding these Super PACs is coming from.
