Support AB150 & AB225 (Melendez)
We are writing in support of two gun bills AB150 and AB225 authored by Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez. Assemblywoman Melendez is correct that the state of California needs to start targeting criminals. Over the years, most gun laws have targeted law abiding citizens. The California legislature generated bill after bill despite heavy opposition to the point where many were vetoed by you and others struck down in court.
AB 1014 has a major flaw, criminals can and will abuse the means to report any individual they deem a threat. Making a false police report of this type will be a felony under AB225. We support this bill and hope you will sign this into law with urgency.
Assemblywoman Melendez stands with the law abiding citizens in the State of California to have Proposition 47 changed via AB150. Criminals should not get a free pass at stealing any gun, regardless the value of the gun. We support this bill and hope you sign this into law.
In Proposition 47, it states the following:
"1. In most instances, many crimes that were previously “arrestable” as a felony will now only be “citable” as a misdemeanor. That means they may not be booked into jail but rather given a citation (similar to a traffic ticket) with a court date to appear, and released in the field. They will not be held pending trial. Such felony crimes that are now misdemeanors include:
• Commercial burglary (theft under $950)
• Forgery and bad checks (under $950 value)
• Theft of most firearms
• Theft of a vehicle (under $950 value)
• Possession of stolen property (under $950 value)
• Possession of heroin, cocaine, illegal prescriptions, concentrated cannabis, and methamphetamine"
Read that line again, "theft of most firearms." Instead of targeting criminals we are now helping them out. Whose side will you choose to stand with, Governor Brown? Will you help criminals get away with firearms theft or will you stand to protect the People of California?
I highly encourage you to sign these two bills into law. Thank you for your time.

Why is this important?
These two bills address the shortsightedness that plagues Sacramento politics regarding AB 1014 and Prop 47. They forget that it's the criminals we're suppose to punish not lawful citizens.
