Support NYS Bill A2470 for Geriatric Parole

Support geriatric parole release for eligible inmates in New York who are at least sixty years of age and, following appropriate risk assessment, have served at least one-half of the minimum term of their sentence, excluding, however, any inmate serving a sentence for murder in the first degree, sex offenses, child pornography, or an act of terrorism.

Why is this important?

Due to the low rates of recidivism for older adults, as compared to younger groups of paroled individuals, we support the establishment of a program to consider the release of geriatric inmates who do not pose a public safety risk. Currently, Bill A2470, which would support such a program, is sitting at committee at the NYS Assembly and we wish to vocalize our support to our local Assembly persons and State Senators for signing such a bill into law.
