Support HB0203 Ending Prison Gerrymandering In Illinois
The Census plans to continue to count prisoners for the 2020 count where they are incarcerated. It is important that we are drawing legislative and representative districts with integrity for Illinois citizens to be properly represented. Illinois should follow states such as Delaware, Maryland, Nevada, California, New York, and Washington outlawing prison gerrymandering.
Why is this important?
HB0203 creates the "No Representation Without Population Act" to stop the practice of prison gerrymandering. Counting prisoners at their last known address will also help the transition to a productive life for the prisoner. Keeping the integrity of the Census count will keep their home communities accurately represented in the state legislature.
