Support Independent Practice for North Carolina Nurse Midwives

The Certified Nurse Midwives of North Carolina, on behalf of the women and families they serve, seek the ability to be licensed to practice independently within their area of training, expertise, and certification. Support legislation like that of Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina, and many other states whose laws already license Certified Nurse Midwives to practice independently.

Why is this important?

North Carolina is one of only five states that still requires nurse midwives to practice under the supervision of a physician. These laws have no scientific or medical justification and limit access to health care and women's reproductive rights.

I am a home birth certified nurse midwife in North Carolina, and because of this law, I am unable to provide care to women choosing home birth.
