Everyone is working to reduce the number of cars on the road. Providing people with incentives to take mass transit is exactly the message we want to send right now.
The tax code should not give people more incentive to drive than to take mass transit!
Please continue the transit and vanpool pre-tax benefit level at $230 per month and vote against reducing it to $125 a month in 2012.
Why is this important?
Federal tax law allows employees to use pre-tax dollars to pay for their commuting expenses. In 2012 the maximum tax-free discount to each employee for TRANSIT will be $125 per month, but for PARKING it is $240 per month!! This is a change from last year when congress had the levels equals for parking and transit. Commuters who use mass transit should get the same benefit as drivers!!!
