Support the National Popular Vote Bill
Twice in the last 16 years a presidential nominee has won the popular vote, but lost the election. Please support the National Popular Vote bill to ensure this never happens again.
Why is this important?
We believe our country to be the beacon of democracy, but in the presidential election on Tuesday we witnessed a flawed democratic process at work. Hillary Clinton, who won the majority of votes from the American people, lost the presidency to Donald Trump. This happened because the Electoral College is an outdated system that needs to be reformed. The National Popular Vote bill would change this by ensuring that the winner of the popular vote in all 50 states and the District of Columbia would win the Presidency. The people of Maine from both parties have shown that they believe this process to be more democratic and in 2008 the measure was passed by the Maine Senate only to be defeated 2 years later in the House. I urge you to revisit this bill and make the Presidential election process more democratic for ALL Americans, so every vote may count.
