Take a Stance Against Congressional Dysfunction: End the Hastert Rule

The Hastert Rule, which has been employed only by Republican House leaders, has the effect of holding the country hostage to the more extreme right wing of the Republican Party. This informal rule requires that any legislation that comes to the House be approved first by the majority of the Republican Party. Thus, legislation that is supported by a sizable minority of the Republican Party and by most Democrats never even comes up for a vote in the House. Take a stand and demand that the Hastert Rule be ended so that Congress can function as intended, with all legislation coming to the full House for a vote.

Why is this important?

The Hastert Rule, which has only been applied by Republican Speakers, is anti-democratic and holds the whole country hostage to the right wing of the Republican Party.
