Tami Fitzgerald: Stop the Hypocrisy: No More Leadership For NC Amendment One

Tami Fitzgerald
Chairwoman, Vote FOR Marriage NC

Dear Tami Fitzgerald,

The Bible makes very clear statements about the different roles of men and women, as your campaign has emphasized repeatedly in the fight to make sure marriage does not become genderless. Some radicals might think same-sex couples are just as valid as opposite-sex ones, but we know the truth: God created man and woman differently, and we must follow His teachings as to their different roles- roles like husband, father, wife and mother- in all we do.

In light of this, we demand your immediate resignation from all leadership and teaching roles with NC Values Coalition and the Vote FOR Marriage Campaign. The scripture is clear on women in leadership and teaching roles. In fact, it is much more clear on this than it is on same-sex marriage, which it does not expressly forbid:

"A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner." 1 Timothy 11-14

"Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church." 1 Corinthians 34-35

The Bible is clear: you have no place teaching or assuming authority over men. Today, children grow up thinking that unbiblical woman-leaders are not only permissible but to be encouraged. Our children are being indoctrinated by the liberal left daily in classrooms, often taught by women, to believe that women should be able to teach and assume authority over men. It has gotten so bad that women are now aspiring to the office of President of the United States.

Some might argue that the Bible reflects the cultural context in which it was created, and clear statements like these no longer apply. Some argue that the Bible can be interpreted more loosely, and these verses merely indicate that women should be respectful of men and not become pastors or ministers. But if we take these positions, we will be no different than the radicals who believe that the only requirements for marriage should be two non-related adults who are in love. Therefore, in order to be consistent in your interpretation of God’s Word, you must immediately resign and quit your sinful acts of teaching and leading.

Best regards,
The Undersigned

Why is this important?

Tami Fitzgerald is chairwoman of the campaign to put Amendment One into the constitution, which would prohibit North Carolina from viewing same-sex relationships as marriages or civil unions. Her opposition to acknowledging same-sex couples is grounded in the Bible. However, the Bible is much clearer about banning women from teaching or holding authority over men than it is about same-sex relationships. To be consistent in her interpretation of the Bible, we demand that Ms. Fitzgerald immediately resigns and discontinues all leadership and teaching roles.
