Please consider the establishment of a progressive and periodic tax on firearms with the specific intent of using the tax revenue to supplement the funding of mental health and public health programs as well as firearm management. A tax that will increase rapidly with the capability/firepower of the firearm. An ammunition tax applied at point-of-sale can also be rapidly progressive based on firepower/purpose.
Why is this important?
This is to begin to offset the current environment wherein firearm profits are privatized to benefit relatively few, while the increasing indirect costs of public security are (socialized) paid for by all citizens involuntarily rather than accounted for in the manufacturing and distribution of these firearms.
