Tax imported oil based on origin to pay for wars in that region
Recognizing that the major basis for military action around the world is to protect supplies of oil and other resources, the cost of that activity should be applied to the resources protected. This would provide a more accurate cost of the resource when compared against other competitive solutions, such as solar and wind technologies in the case of oil. Note that this is not an additional tax, just shifting the burden away from the general public and onto the resource itself. Recent estimates of the cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is 3 to 4 trillion dollars. International competition for dwindling resources will likely lead to further conflict and accurate pricing of these resources will become more important.
Why is this important?
Recognizing that the major basis for military action around the world is to protect supplies of oil and other resources, the cost of that activity should be applied to the resources protected. This will provide a more accurate cost of oil when compared to alternatives such as solar and wind, and shift the tax burden away from the general public.
