Tell Aramark, Sodexo and Compass Group: Stop fueling environmental destruction through your food ...
As an advocate for the environment and social justice, I am writing to express my support for the Real Meals Campaign to create a more just and sustainable food system.
It is unacceptable to me that Aramark is serving food from corporations that exploit workers, harm our environment, and produce unhealthy food. Foodservice companies should be an active force for good working conditions, environmental sustainability, and racial justice.
Instead of siding with Big Food companies, foodservice management companies should support small producers, minority farmers, and sustainable suppliers. I respectfully request that you reorient your business model away from one that relies on exclusive contracts with Big Food vendors and towards one that supports Real Meals.
As a first step, I ask that you do the following on college campuses across the country:
- Purchase at least 25% of your food from sources that are local & community based, fair, ecologically sound, and humane;
- Invest in racial justice and equity by expanding purchasing from disenfranchised farmers, fishers and ranchers and by investing in infrastructure to support them; and
- Reduce your carbon emissions and factory-farmed meat, poultry, and cheese purchases by 25%.
Once again, I strongly support these reforms to create a more just, transparent, and sustainable food system.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,

Why is this important?
Factory farming pollutes water and contributes to climate chaos. Pesticides poison people and are leading to the decline of bees and monarch butterflies. And yet Aramark, Sodexo, and Compass Group are lining the pockets of “Big Food” corporations like Tyson, which produce pesticide-intensive, GMO-fed, factory-farmed meat.
If food service companies shifted to serving food that is good for people and the planet, it would make a huge impact. But we need your help to urge them to act!
