Tell AZ lawmakers to oppose bills that hurt jobless workers and their families and our communities

We urge you to oppose SB 1495, HB 2150 and 2519 and any other bills attacking unemployed workers and their families.

These bills, which would require unemployed workers to pass drug tests, raise the wage requirements for Arizonans to be eligible to receive insurance benefits and allow employers to claim workers as independent contractors who are not eligible for benefits, are mean spirited, do nothing to create the jobs needed to get people back to work and help Arizona’s economy and, in the case of the drug testing bill, would raise taxes on Arizona businesses.

Please vote NO on SB 1495, HB 2150 and 2519 and any other bills that would hurt unemployed workers and their families.

Why is this important?

In Arizona, unemployment insurance as we know it is on the chopping block.

Tens of thousands of Arizonans are currently unemployed. They are our friends, neighbors and family members who are struggling to find work. But instead of helping create good jobs, extreme legislators in Phoenix have proposed a slew of destructive bills this year—blaming jobless workers and their families for an economic downturn they didn’t create.

Mean spirited politicians are pushing three bills, SB 1495 and HB 2150 and 2519, that are a one-two-three punch to the stomach of unemployed workers and their families. These bills would require unemployed workers to pass drug tests to get their unemployment insurance, increase the wage requirements by 100% for Arizonans to be eligible to receive insurance benefits and make it easier for employers to claim a worker is an independent contractor and, therefore, not eligible for unemployment insurance.

It's time for Arizona lawmakers to stop these attacks and focus on real policies that create good jobs for Arizonans.
