Tell Bellevue City Council: Don't develop our wildlife corridor at Airfield Park

Our Mission:
Preserve the park’s fragile meadow and tree canopy, prevent toxic exposure, and safeguard Bellevue’s natural spaces.

Bellevue City Council has put forward a plan to develop Airfield Park to include an Aquatic Center. This area is one of our last remaining wildlife corridors and as severe climate changes continue to progress, we need to protect, rather than destroy it.

We are excited to connect with our community with a new newsletter platform.

Why is this important?

We, the undersigned, are asking Bellevue City Council NOT to move ahead with plans to destroy our wildlife corridor.

City of Bellevue has submitted a Notice of Non-Project Action to SEPA (environmental review) to update the Bellevue Airfield Park Master Plan. If it passes the review, it will allow the city to move forward on their plan to develop the park.
Public Comment period on this project has already begun. It is critical that our community floods their office with comment and it is important that those be submitted as soon as possible.

A Sample Letter and Key Points can be found on the "How Can I Help" page of our website: https://www.saveairfieldpark.org/help.

We could use your help and expertise for the following (email [email protected]):
Do you have engineering and/or research background? We have access to old landfill data and how it affected surrounding areas like Phantom Lake. We could use a professional eye to ask the right questions for the upcoming SEPA (environmental) review.
Are you a budget person? We could use your expertise to parse all the various city numbers regarding the project and determine probable household costs to Bellevue residents.
We have a Community Table at Crossroads! We need volunteers to manage the table (talk to people, pass out flyers). We currently have Thursdays from Noon to 3pm and Tuesdays from 3pm-5pm
We'd love to have various surveys of meadow habitat. One supporter is working on a list of birds. We have so many supporters with a vast range of expertise! Tell us about your experiences with the plants, animals, insects, reptiles.

Come join us for Family Picnic and Art in the Meadow.
We will be joined by our Artist in Residence, Rebecca Crockett. The art she produces will also be for sale.

We will have plenty of materials to allow the young artist in your life to also produce works of art inspired by our meadow. We hope to see you there!

Where: Bellevue Airfield Park is located at 2997 160th Ave SE, Bellevue, WA.
When: Saturday, July 8
Time: 11am until we decide to go home.

Wow, our signatures are growing by the day! Add 224 to whatever the online numbers are to include our paper signatures (645 total right now). I'm sure we can reach our goal of 1000 signatures by June 5. Please see our website for details about attending the June 5 Bellevue City Council Meeting. Let’s fill the room!

We are gaining momentum AND we have a new website - it is still very much under construction but you can find it at https://www.saveairfieldpark.org. Be sure to bookmark it and check back often.
We have been posting Save Our Meadow signs and we realize we need to have a more solid visual identity going forward. Our new logo for signs and fliers is coming soon!
Our great conversations on Earth Day also made us very aware that we need to start having strategy meetings. I will be sending an email to find out who would like to get more involved.
We are still actively seeking signatures and hope to deliver what we have so far at an upcoming Bellevue City Council Meeting. Stay Tuned. There are just a few things where we need people to show up. This will be one of them!

Along with our paper petition, we are at 266 signatures! Let's keep going and if you can show your support by attending the City Council Meeting on Monday, April 3 at City Hall, even better! Let me know if you would like paper petitions to share with neighbors and friends. We've only been at this for 2 months and we're steadily growing!
