Tell Carnival Cruise Lines: Stop polluting our oceans!

Friends of the Earth’s just-released 2014 Cruise Ship Report Card grades 16 cruise lines and 167 ships on their environmental practices, and once again Carnival Cruise Lines gets a failing grade for its treatment of the ocean.

I am extremely upset that your company has been using 35-year-old technology to treat sewage waste on a significant majority of your cruise ship fleet. Sewage treated with this older technology often contains significant amounts of fecal bacteria, heavy metals, and nutrients that I don’t want dumped in our oceans.

In 2013, Carnival also got a failing grade on the Report Card. So this time, instead of taking steps to protect the ocean, you chose to hide your company’s polluting practices from us. I demand that you do better going forward.

Please commit to cleaning up Carnival Cruise Lines' ships before even more sewage pollutes our oceans, contaminating our beaches and reefs and potentially causing illness in people through eating tainted seafood or contact with polluted water.

Why is this important?

Now that winter is in full swing, many Americans are flocking to warm vacation destinations and booking cruises. Unfortunately, many of these trips have a devastating impact on the environment – but it doesn't have to be that way. We need your help to convince Carnival Cruise Lines, one of the worst actors, to clean up its act!
