Senator Elizabeth Warren (MA) has introduced the Bank on Students Loan Fairness Act, which would lower the interest rate on subsidized Stafford loans to .75%. Her solution is simple: Give students the same interest rates as banks. Bank on us!
Why is this important?
Like millions of other students across the country, I will be graduating with tens of thousands of dollars in student loan debt. Students are being crushed under the impossible weight of student loan debt. Even worse, the interest rate on our student loans is nine times that of the big banks - the same big banks that cost millions of Americans their jobs and nearly wrecked our economy.
