Tell Gov. Brown to limit the use of police drones

Governor Jerry Brown vetoed a bill this week that would have required the Government to secure a warrant from a judge before using surveillance drones except in cases of environmental emergencies such as oil or chemical spills, fires or hostage situations.

The bill would have allowed public agencies the use of drones without a warrant only in cases that didn't involve criminal-intelligence gathering and any footage would have to be destroyed within a year.

Gov. Brown said that although there may be some circumstances when a warrant is appropriate, the bill went too far.

Why is this important?

More and more Americans are becoming concerned about their privacy, and the Governor needs to make a commitment to protecting his citizens' rights.

Days after rejecting this bill, a bill preventing paparazzi from targeting celebrities with camera-equipped drones was signed by Governor Brown.

We don't approve of the general public nor the Government and its agencies to use unwarranted surveillance drones on California citizens.
