Clean energy like rooftop solar is one of the best things we can do to address global warming. While claiming to support clean energy, Hawaiian Electric Co. (HECO) is proposing new rules behind the scenes that will strangle the fledgling solar industry. Advancements in solar technology and creative financing have put solar within reach of the majority of homeowners and local businesses who need relief on their electric bill. A modern, smart, clean grid benefits all of Hawaii. We can't afford to let HECO stand in the way by imposing new fees and advocating against tax credits for solar.
Why is this important?
I think solar is one of the only things that individuals can do to make a difference with global warming. Living in an island state the dangers of global warming are acute. So I don't think we should let any business institution, interest group or person stand in the way of letting families convert to roof top solar.
