Tell Heinz to Protect Rainforests, Orangutans and People: Don’t Replace Trans Fats with Conflict ...

H.J. Heinz Company must demand responsible palm oil from its suppliers and eliminate Conflict Palm Oil--associated with enslaving children, killing endangered orangutans, and destroying the rainforests--from its products. As Heinz phases out trans fats from its products it must not use Conflict Palm Oil as a replacement.

Why is this important?

The FDA has proposed a ban on trans fat. While this is great for our kids health we have to make sure companies like Heinz don’t replace trans fat with more Conflict Palm Oil.

H.J. Heinz Company, one of the biggest companies in Pittsburg, PA, is also one of the biggest buyers of palm oil in the world. Much of that palm oil drives mass deforestation in Indonesia.

Heinz could easily help protect people and rainforests if it adopted a policy to buy responsible palm oil instead of Conflict Palm Oil.

The damage caused by Conflict Palm Oil is tremendous. Deforestation to make way for palm oil plantations threatens unique and priceless ecosystems. It threatens species like the Sumatran tiger and orangutans. The impact on communities who are forced off their land or pushed into forced and child labor is simply unacceptable. The destruction of forests is also releasing carbon into the atmosphere and driving climate change.

Other companies are already dropping Conflict Palm Oil from their products. It’s time Heinz did the same.

Would you help us put some pressure on Heinz by signing this petition? We’ll make sure it’s a message they can’t ignore.
