To: Health insurance providers

Tell insurance companies: Don't let Trump sabotage health care.

Health insurers have a responsibility — and an incentive — to ensure that insurance markets remain stable and offer affordable health care options. No one wins when Americans can’t pay for the care they need to live long and healthy lives.

But Donald Trump’s recent executive order will undermine the integrity of America’s marketplaces and makes millions of Americans at risk for higher health care costs.

In response, health insurance companies should make a concerted effort to stay in the insurance exchanges and keep costs low. We implore you and other insurance providers to stay on the side of consumers and refuse to offer junk plans that threaten protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

We know that health insurance providers are fully aware that this executive order could destabilize markets for individuals and small businesses — hiking costs and gutting protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

It is up to insurers like Anthem Blue Cross, Aetna, and Cigna to take decisive action and save our health insurance markets from the consequences of this executive order. Please commit to staying in the Affordable Care Act marketplaces.

Why is this important?

Donald Trump's executive order sets into motion a potential collapse of markets for individuals and small businesses — hiking costs and gutting consumer protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
