This year, approximately 100,000 healthy and treatable companion animals ending up in animal control depts and shelters in New Mexico will not receive the programming and services they need to have a second chance to find a loving, forever home. Many of these animals will die needlessly despite cost effective, proven alternatives. On June 11, 2013, animal shelters, animal control depts and rescue groups across the U.S. are taking a pledge to not kill any savable animals for Just One Day. We are asking for Official New Mexico support for Just One Day, encouraging all of New Mexico’s shelters to take a market savvy approach to life saving and bring their adoptable pets out to the public, aggressively partner with rescue groups, host special adoption events that have discounted and affordable rates, stay open for extended hours, and ask their communities to help them empty the shelter in the best way possible, where no animals die. Last year, via the Just One Day event, more than 10,000 animals were saved, making it the single largest homeless pet life-saving event in US history. We want to save more lives this year and we need your support. Learn more at: http://www.justoneday.ws

Why is this important?

Over 300 cities (urban, suburban and rural, wealthy and poor) across America have now ended the needless killing of healthy and treatable companion animals. Ask the Governor and the State of New Mexico to support the animal life-saving event “Just One Day” by urging animal shelters across New Mexico to take a pledge not to kill any savable animals on June 11, 2013. Instead of clearing cages by euthanizing, animals will leave the shelters with their forever families. At the end of the day, the shelters will have many more empty cages than at the beginning of the day. Yet, no animals will have had to die in order to make that happen.
