Tell Rick Scott: Extend Voter Registration Until The Hurricane Michael Emergency Is Over
Extend the Florida voter registration deadline until after the Hurricane Michael emergency is over.
Why is this important?
Hurricane Michael is a monster storm, fueled by global warming pollution. It cut an unprecedented path of terrible destruction through the Florida panhandle. Hundreds of thousands of Floridians faced mandatory evacuation orders even as the October 9 voter registration deadline approached. Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency on October 7 and has been making dozens of TV appearances but has refused to extend the voter registration deadline.
The people of Florida need to be able to focus right now on keeping themselves and their loved ones safe, not on whether they'll be able to cast their ballots.
Rick Scott is a climate change denier and was the chairman of Donald Trump's Super PAC. He is playing partisan politics with our democracy—just like he did when Hurricane Matthew hit Florida in 2016. This is unacceptable.
