To: The United States Senate

Tell the Senate: Don't put a coal lobbyist in charge of our environmental protections!

Dear Senator,

I urge you to reject the nomination of Andrew Wheeler for Deputy Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. If Administrator Pruitt were to resign or be fired, Wheeler would be next in line to become acting administrator. He is far too dangerous to fill such an essential position.

Wheeler’s connections to the coal industry are well-documented. He worked for coal mining conglomerate Murray Energy during a period when it sued the EPA multiple times to prevent stricter regulations on ozone and carbon emissions and other pollutants.

Wheeler is also an outspoken climate change denier who believes the Earth may be going through a “cooling phase.”

Finally, I find it deeply troubling that Wheeler was holding fundraisers for Senators on the Environment and Public Works Committee even as his nomination was pending. This is the epitome of pay to play politics.

We need leaders at the Environmental Protection Agency who will protect our public health and environment, not help the coal industry continue to pollute.

Thank you,

Why is this important?

Donald Trump has nominated a coal industry lobbyist named Andrew Wheeler to fill the number two spot at the Environmental Protection Agency.

With EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt mired in scandal and fighting for his job, Wheeler could be next in line to take over the EPA. That makes it all the more important that we stop his nomination.
