Tell WLTX-TV: Stop Airing Sunday Sermons from The First Baptist Chuch of Columbia.

For the past 59 years, sermons from The First Baptist Church of Columbia in Columbia, SC have been broadcast on WLTX-TV every Sunday at 11AM. This past Sunday (9-20-15), Pastor Wendell Estep proclaimed to his congregation that the "End Times" were near and the Antichrist was close to establishing his unholy Kingdom on earth. He cited the recent persecution and jailing of Kentucky Clerk Kim Davis by "Militant Homosexuals" as evidence of the upcoming Apocalypse. I think it's time we send a loud and clear message to WLTX-TV: STOP airing Pastor Estep's homophobic sermons from the First Baptist Church of Columbia. Jesus taught love and acceptance, not the kind of hateful demagoguery Pastor Wendell Estep spews from the pulpit!

Why is this important?

Unfortunately, my home state of South Carolina has historically dragged its feet on the path to social progress and justice. We South Carolinians should prove that it wasn't merely symbolic when the Confederate flag was removed from South Carolina State House grounds after the massacre at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston.

Let's show the nation that in 2015, South Carolina will not tolerate a local news station giving a platform for hate speech of any kind. The Freedom of Speech is one of America's most cherished and protected rights. However, We the People have a right and duty to DEMAND that a local TV station no longer provide a platform for homophobia and demagoguery.
