To: Sitting President
Term limits
I believe we are ready to reconsider the term length of our President. Among other things, how much important time is taken away from our President in the fulfilling of his important duties in an effort to campaign, either for himself or for others. We need to consider the idea of a one term, 6 year presidency. This will preclude our very partisan Congress from voting down every idea that might make the sitting President look good in an effort to thwart his re-election. It would keep the first term President from becoming a lame duck and to make decisions based on getting re-elected. A one term would give the sitting President enough time to implement many of his campaign promises, but not so much time should a change be needed. There are many positive reasons for establishing a one term limit.
Why is this important?
We need to consider term limits for the Presidency to make his one term more effective. There is too much important time wasted on campaigning for a second term and too little time to implement important changes.
