TERM LIMITS.... the time has come.
"A government by representatives elected by the people at short periods was our object, and our maxim... was, 'where annual election ends, tyranny begins;' nor have our departures from it been sanctioned by the happiness of their effects." --Thomas Jefferson to S. Adams, 1800.
In keeping with this view of the most quoted "founding father" of our country, it is time to do away with the low ratings of professional politicians, and replace them over the next few years with "Citizens Elected" to run the house and senate, for two terms, maximum, then return to reality. The present batch of politicians has lost touch with reality, receiving a life long pension for even one term of "service" and health insurance way above that of the citizenry who elect them.
Return to our roots.
Why is this important?
It is time for professional politicians to step away from DC., and to begin anew with citizen involvement in government, whereby elected officials other than the president are also limited to two terms. That is it. No careers in DC becoming millionaires, just citizens who want the best for the country battling out laws, doing their job, then going home. No lifelong medical coverage, no pension, just a paycheck, social security deductions, and no unemployment benefits.
