The Born Different
People with chronic physical conditions are being denied for social security benefits. People who are born with certain physical disabilities and are identified as being disabled as a child, should qualify for SSI benefits once they reach the legal age of adulthood.
Why is this important?
My son was born with a rare form of dwarfism he is only 3’2” tall at the age on 21. He has applied for SSI at the age of 18 and was told that he did not qualify because there is 2,000 jobs in the entire state that he was suited for despite the fact that because of his dwarfism he is unable to compete with an average person because his height and limbs are shorter making him unable to be efficient with office machinery; for example, unable to reach copy machine without assistance, unable to type with speed and accuracy, unable to drive without special attachment. His dwarfism also makes it a safety issue for most entry level jobs available to his peers such as fast food.
