Re-Re-Improve School Lunches

School lunches are too small in size and are not enough to satisfy many active students and those who are poor and cannot afford to eat at home. According to Feeding America.org, 26.7% of American kids face food insecurity, which means for many (more than 20 million school children) school lunches and breakfasts are their only meals per day. New law requires lunches to be only 750-850 calories, when active teens require 2,000 to 5,000, according to Kids Health.org. Also, kids who live in poverty are possibly only getting maybe 1,000 calories or less per day! Please, help improve school lunches for the better good of those who need it. There are better ways of fighting child obesity, such as investing in active programs and creating new programs for more children to participate in.

Why is this important?

School lunches are now too small and students aren't getting enough energy, especially those who are poor and can't afford barely anything for food at home, and those who are constanly active. Some better suggestions for developing healthier eating habits and fighting obesity: Snacks for students of all ages that include fruits, veggies, grains, etc., investing in school sports and many other "let's get moving" type activities, and so on. Also: Stop wasteful spending on foam plates in schools! It's bad for the enviroment and buying regular plates could save schools thousands of dollars per year, helping schools use more money on textbooks, new equipment, and much more. Plus, it is our right to eat how we choose, is it not?
