The Gloucester County New Jersey NAACP demands all states that have passed and enacted " Stand Your Ground Laws " take immediate action to repeal these laws and replace them with common sense gun control legislation, because we believe they are profoundly unconstitutional, and may serve as a catalyst for armed civilians to deliver instant vigilante justice. Too often the victims of this instant justice are African American or Hispanic males.
We believe that these laws, introduced by the American Legislative Exchange Council in cooperation with the NRA have had the negative effect of re-instituting legalized lynching and promoting gun violence among the general populace.
Why is this important?
The GCNJ NAACP demands all states that have passed and enacted " Stand Your Ground Laws " take immediate action to repeal these laws and replace them with common sense gun control legislation. In light of all the violent incidents and tragic loss of innocent life from guns lately, we must act now! This level of violence is unacceptable and it must stop.
