The House Must Vote to Stop War on Iran
Congress must pass H.Con.Res.40 now to stop an unauthorized and historically unpopular war on Iran that has killed thousands, cost taxpayers billions, and caused a global energy crisis.
Why is this important?
Debates in the House have begun over a war powers resolution (WPR) that would stop Trump’s illegal war on Iran — a war that has killed thousands in Iran and beyond, caused an economic catastrophe as gas prices soar, and is costing taxpayers more than $1 BILLION each day.
It’s also a war that Trump is gearing up to escalate, with 4,500 U.S. sailors and Marines. Another 3,000 soldiers from the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division were just deployed to the Middle East.
That is, unless Congress stops him. The good news? They have an opportunity to do just that by passing Reps. Jim Himes, Gregory Meeks, and Adam Smith’s WPR, H.Con.Res.40. Democratic leadership has delayed a vote to give the WPR its best shot at passing. That gives us more precious time to do all we can to secure a majority.
Here’s the math: The last House WPR came down to just four votes. Now, as the costs for Trump’s deadly, unpopular war continue to rise, we’re seeing the kind of shifts that can close that gap. We can get there — but only if we can rally enough support NOW.
