The Journal: Stop advertising for Pet Stores that Sell Puppies

The following individuals are petitioning the Martinsburg Journal to stop featuring ads for local Pet Stores that sell puppies. National and local statistics prove that 95% of pet store puppies come from puppy mills where breeder dogs are forced to breed, whelp, and live ina small cage for their entire lives never knowing the warmth of a kind word or gentle touch. We are asking that the Journal not add to the suffering of these dogs by promoting the pet stores in their classified section.

Why is this important?

Although many people know the origin of the puppies sold at wvpuppy.com are out of state private breeding facilities, some still do not and innocently buy a pet thinking that they are helping that puppy. Recently, a shipment of puppies was seized by the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department and Berkeley County Animal Control and the Journal reported on it. However after a short break, they began again to advertise this "business." We are asking the Classified section to stop running ads for wvpuppy.com and any other pet stores in the area that sell puppies. 95 % of these puppies are "cash crops" originating in out of state puppy mills that are then brokered to local pet stores.
